Museo delle Torri e Torre Marrana
The Museum of the Towers in Brivadi is part of the Civic Museums of Ricadi, extended in 5 different locations in the city.
The museum is housed in a restored building of raw bricks, located between the Marrana Tower, of the Angevin age, and the outdoor stone theater, in a green area of about 3 hectares.
The museum is exclusively iconographic with panels that illustrate the state of the towers today, situated in Tropea, in Capo Vaticano, the reproductions of the drawings of the Towers of the late eighteenth century and the reproduction of the Towers taken from the Carratelli Code (XVI century).
The area of Marrana Tower is of great archaeological interest where it’s found fragments of ceramics that lead back to the presence of a prehistoric settlement.
The tower was built in sec. XIV, in the Angevin age, when the defensive system, required a strengthening of the control of the territory because of the increasing conflict also towards the numerous armed bands of people of the underworld.
It is assumed that the present remains represent the basal part of the artifact.
The stone theater, that seems to Greek theater, has a capacity of 500 spectators and is used in the summer for exhibitions and performances.
