Chiesa di Santa Domenica

An ancient popular tradition says that it was the same Santa Domenica to choose the place for the church dedicated to her.

The stone used to build the church, was left in a place and, in the morning, the same was found near the currently Church place.

The priest Giuseppe Petracca from Ricadi, who ruled the parish for 53 years, in 1834 at the beginning of his ministry, found the church cramped for the increased population.

The church then stopped at the lower gate, in all 17 m. long. The apse was built, the sacristy with the back archive and the rectory, in 1872 the present bell tower and finally the side nave was begun and completed.

The current façade is of 1911, in the center dominates the image of Santa Domenica on majolica, works of the company Gaetano Campagna of Naples, and a marble plaque in memory of his consecration, both are from 1922.

Inside the valuable vault decorated with stuccoes of 1897 and, among other works, a beautiful statue of the Madonna of Sorrows (about 1600) called the “Chiovana” because in the pass time, on November 21, there was a procession to invoke the rain.
