Belvedere dei Cannoni

This place, which the Magna Graecia settlers had already used as an outpost for protection from the dangers coming from the sea together with the nearby promontory of Santa Maria where they had settled, was used as a military site with the emplacement of a cannon structure on which remains the basement, both in the first and in the second world war.

Near of the offensive position during the Second World War the powder magazine was built, the basement structure used for the custody of howitzers, weapons and ammunition, of which remains a portion of the underground wall and a second base for machine guns not far away.

On the side, there is Capo Vaticano where the legend tells that from its cave, in front of the Mantineo, the ancient Sibilla Manto still sings her carmina, until the sun enters the mouth of Stromboli and the sky are veiled with the magical and surreal colors of the sunset to communicate their destiny to mortals.
